The easiest and the most versatile step to learn in the Lindy is the Push Step. Step One: Face partner squarely with shoulders parallel standing about two feet apart. Step Two: Join opposite hands holding them palms to palms at shoulder level, elbows bent. Step Three: Starting with the Rock Step on #5 & #6, push away from each other on #5, still holding hands, and pull together on #6. Step Four: Go into 1st and 2nd Triple steps still holding on, palms to palms at shoulder level; 1 &2, 3 & 4. Step Five: Repeat the sequence using Basic Rhythm Step, pushing on #5 and pulling on #6.
Transition:
From the Open Position, as Man pulls the Lady back toward Promenade Position he catches her left hand with his right; shifts both hands, palms to palms, and continues 1st and 2nd triples on beat, facing partner squarely with shoulders parallel standing some two feet apart. Getting out of the Push Step On #5, Man pushes Lady away, drops her left hand and pulls her back to Basic or into any other variation. Repeating the Push Step several times is a good way of practicing resistance by both partners holding their arms firm, and maintaining resistance both on the Pulls and Pushes. Note: There are many Push variations, which are graphically described in my book, "Strictly Swing The Dean Collins Way."
